Founders Story
Hi! I’m Amanda.
My childhood in the Midwest was typical, which is to say, magical.
I was raised by a General Contractor who gave me a love of structure and an Early Childhood Educator who gave me a love of play. From both of them, a deep love of reading. I’d spend summers playing in the field beside our house with constantly scabbed knees from trying to keep up with my three big brothers. I often came home covered in mud. I’d build imaginary worlds with my cousins: kingdoms and mysteries, dance performances and adventure. We caught lightning bugs, swam in lakes, and stayed out until the street lights came on. We played hard.
I approached my career with the same curiosity and thirst for knowledge that drove me as a child. Armed with an Independent Studies degree from University of Nebraska specializing in Architecture, Art, and Communication, I set out on a path to find my Big Dream. I spent years collecting skills and insights from different industries with both creative and logical aspects. I soon found a passion for leadership and project management. Outside of my professional path I’ve worked many jobs simply for fun. Some notable favorites include: dog-sitter, florist, cleaner, kid’s arcade bartender, gardener, and even an elf for a mall Santa. What I’ve loved most about all of the work I’ve done is not only the new experiences and lessons learned, but getting to interact with my community, and more importantly, getting to serve my community. No matter which industry, from interior design and accounting, to event production, commercial construction and exhibitry, I found joy in working with good people toward a common goal.
If you know a Midwesterner, you know we have a particular love for discussing the weather. Considering our corn-fed nature and the blistering summers that turn into frigid winters, it’s logical that our conversations tend to linger on mother nature. What does not make sense, however, is that the weather does not stop a Midwesterner from going about their day: not zero temperature blizzards or sweltering hot dog days, nor springtime tornado warnings. (We have next-level mail carriers!) These challenges have made us steadfast people who understand that no matter the weather, a sunny attitude will strengthen you to face each day as a new adventure. We often come home happy, tired, and covered in mud.
Sunny Day Fabrication & Design is a cumulation of the magic that comes with childhood and the midwestern tenacity to stay positive, work hard, and make it happen. We approach each day and each project with curiosity and drive. We understand the need for creativity and structure, we have a respect for budget, and appreciate the power of a good attitude. With over a decade of construction, fabrication, and design experience, Sunny Day will be your partner in creation no matter which stage of the exciting exhibit journey you are on. Whether you are looking to build, looking to rebuild, or just looking for a little sprucing up, we are committed to finding the best solution for your unique needs.
It is a dream to unite diverse and talented teams to serve future generations. It is a blessing to work with people who love their community as much as I love mine. My father always told me, because his father always told him, to find a job you’d do for free and you’ll never work a day in your life. Doing this work is my Big Dream. We want to build yours.
